چکیده

This chapter discusses another example of self-aware and self-expressive systems: a multi-camera network for object tracking. It provides a detailed description of how the concepts of self-awareness and self-expression can be implemented in a real network of smart cameras. In contrast to traditional cameras, smart cameras are able to perform image analysis on-board and collaborate with other cameras in order to analyse the dynamic behaviour of objects in partly unknown environments. Self-aware and self-expressive smart cameras are even able to reason about their current state and to adapt their algorithms in response to changes in their environment and the network. Self-awareness and self-expression allow them to manage the trade-off among performance, flexibility, resources and reliability during runtime. Due to the uncertainties and dynamics in the network a fixed configuration of the cameras is infeasible. We adopt the concepts of self-awareness and self-expression for autonomous monitoring of the state and progress of each camera in the network and adapt its behaviour to changing conditions. In this chapter we focus on describing the building blocks for self-aware camera networks and demonstrate the key characteristics in a multi-camera object tracking application both in simulation and in a real camera network. The proposed application implements the goal sharing Lukas Esterle Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] Jennifer Simonjan Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] Georg Nebehay Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] Roman Pflugfelder Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] Gustavo Fernández Domı́nguez Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria, e-mail: [email protected] Bernhard Rinner Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria, e-mail: [email protected]

Convolutional Gating Network for Object Tracking

Object tracking through multiple cameras is a popular research topic in security and surveillance systems especially when human objects are the target. However, occlusion is one of the challenging problems for the tracking process. This paper proposes a multiple-camera-based cooperative tracking method to overcome the occlusion problem.  The paper presents a new model for combining convolutiona...

Moving Vehicle Tracking Using Disjoint View Multicameras

Multicamera vehicle tracking is a necessary part of any video-based intelligent transportation system for extracting different traffic parameters such as link travel times and origin/destination counts. In many applications, it is needed to locate traffic cameras disjoint from each other to cover a wide area. This paper presents a method for tracking moving vehicles in such camera networks. The...

Multi-camera object tracking using surprisal observations in visual sensor networks

In this work, we propose a multi-camera object tracking method with surprisal observations based on the cubature information filter in visual sensor networks. In multi-camera object tracking approaches, multiple cameras observe an object and exchange the object’s local information with each other to compute the global state of the object. The information exchange among the cameras suffers from ...

Resource-aware distributed particle filtering for cluster-based object tracking in wireless camera networks

This paper presents a novel resource-aware framework for the implementation of distributed particle filters in resource-constrained wireless camera networks (WCNs). WCNs often suffer from communication failures caused by physical limitations of the communication channel as well as network congestion. Unreliable communication degrades the visual information shared by the cameras, such as visual ...

An equalised global graphical model-based approach for multi-camera object tracking

Non-overlapping multi-camera visual object tracking typically consists of two steps: single camera object tracking and inter-camera object tracking. Most of tracking methods focus on single camera object tracking, which happens in the same scene, while for real surveillance scenes, inter-camera object tracking is needed and single camera tracking methods can not work effectively. In this paper,...
